JOB SUMMARY:

The Nephrology technician provides safe and acceptable dialysis under the supervision of a registered nurse. communicates with patients, families, and the health care team to provide services according to the patient care plan.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs basic patient care activities.
Observes patients and reports unusual conditions and/or reactions to RN.
Obtain blood samples for laboratory analysis as required to complete physician orders.
Perform duties at all times under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and within limitations established by and in accordance with company policy and procedures, applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
Use appropriate safety measures including personal protective equipment as necessary.
Clean, disinfect, and rinse dialysis machines in accordance with policy and procedures.
Prepare machines for hemodialysis treatments.
Obtain pre and post treatment weights of patients per protocols.
Safely initiate and terminate dialysis treatments per center protocol, and within scope of practice and as allowed by state regulations.
Monitor patients during dialysis treatments.
Mix acids and bicarbonate according to protocol.
Complete water testing on a dialysis machine at the beginning of each treatment day and as directed by the Administrator. Complete/document quality control logs throughout the day and after all treatments, as required.
Responds to the patient's needs with compassion and concern.
Participate in staff meetings as required including in-service and continuing education that are offered for certifications.
Other duties as assigned to maintain and enhance the operation of the department.


QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED.
CPR certification or obtained within 60 days of hire.
Confirmation of ability to distinguish all primary colors.
A minimum of 3 months experience in dialysis healthcare, preferred but not required.
Must be certified under a State certification program or a national commercially available certification program. Certification must be obtained within 18 months of hire date as Nephrology Technician.
Must be able to prioritize multiple details simultaneously.
Must have analytical and interpretive skills.
Requires level of short and long-term mental faculties.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check under the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Act and the Wyoming DFS Central Registry.
